A 192‑page monograph documents the work of Japanese‑born ceramicist Yui Tombana. She began creating Doushite in 2019, a project where each object is inscribed with “どうして”, “warum” or “why” and which she intends to continue throughout her life. Every year, influenced by current events and her own life circumstances, its size, shape and material change. “There are always questions and incomprehensible things around us. Even when we confront them, they never disappear. Sometimes they are so naturally present in our surroundings that we don’t even notice them. They aren’t things that need to be, or even can be, eliminated; they simply continue to exist.” (Yui Tombana)

Conceived to be as humble and raw as the artist’s hand‑made ceramics, the book has no traditional cover; instead, its spine is exposed, revealing the publication’s structure. The first and last four pages act as a cover; they are printed on a pulp‑coloured kraft board using partially recycled fibres. A white layer of text gently sits on the acting cover.
