Scratching the Surface is a research project on critical art education approaches. From 2020–2024 at Villa Arson, it materialised as a working group exploring emancipatory pedagogies beyond traditional teaching, encompassing art, theory, design, publishing and mediation. The aim was to collect not only knowledge considered legitimate, but also marginalised knowledge, tacit knowledge, and other unique experiences. The platform collects diverse contributions — interviews, dissertations, commissioned texts — from teachers, students, artists and activists, valuing both legitimate and marginalised knowledge.
